Review:

There are a lot of sandbox games out there these days, but cyubeVR is no Minecraft clone. Designed by Stonebrick Studios, this first person voxel sandbox game allows you to craft and create to your heart’s desire. Utilizing the power of the PSVR2, cyubeVR boasts 8K textures and eye-tracking combined with foveated rendering for an amazing visual experience.

The core mechanics of the game is craft and build. As you start the tutorial, the game provides floating “recipes” that allow you to craft different types of objects. All the player needs to do is walk up to the recipe and touch it for it to be added to their crafting recipe book.  As you learn to craft different objects, the game starts to open up in what you can accomplish. Basics include crafting an axe to harvest wood, crafting a pickaxe to mine stone, etc.  Controlling the game took me about 15 minutes to fully comprehend, but once I got the hang of it, I had no issues moving around and crafting objects. I especially had fun using the gravity gloves feature, which allows you to focus on an object and immediately pull it towards you. The ambient music is quite peaceful and sets the relaxing tone of a world with no consequences.

Speaking of which, there are no enemies in the current state of the game. If you are looking for combat, it’s just not there in the present state, but according to their roadmap is being planned for a later release by the developer. cyubeVR is currently focused specifically on the player gathering resources and building whatever they can imagine. One of the coolest features that the developer has enabled is mod support for numerous custom mod blocks created by the cyubeVR user community. The game is one of the prettier games on the PSVR2, as the pictures and video don’t do it justice. You need to experience cyubeVR to really get a grasp of how awesome it looks. If you are looking for a chill experience in building (or destroying), you owe it to yourselves to check out cyubeVR as soon as possible.
